"By avoiding hametz, or leavened food products, and instead eating lehem oni, "the bread of affliction," we readjust our senses to tastes much more humble and simple."

Traditionally, avoiding hametz has meant getting rid of all hametz in your possession. Because this can cause major financial hardship, as well as food waste, a custom was developed to sell the hametz to a non-Jewish person.

The sale is accomplished by appointing an agent, usually one's rabbi, to handle the sale. It must be considered a valid and legal transfer of ownership, and thus the items sold, including non-Pesah food, dishes, pots, and utensils must be separated from Pesah food and supplies, so that they will not be unintentionally used.

By filling out the form below, you agree to have Rabbi J. Rolando Matalon be your agent to sell your hametz, which reverts to your ownership at the conclusion of the Pesah holiday.

The form must be filled out by Thursday, March 29 at 12:00PM. Be sure to include the full address of every location where hametz is being stored.

Contact Kristen if you need assistance.

It is customary at Pesah to make a voluntary contribution, which is much appreciated.
