CSA Member Commitment
The 2017 Season runs 22 weeks, Tuesday, June 6 - Tuesday, October 31
I commit to membership in the BJ Hazorim CSA, the Hazon and Just Food CSA at B’nai Jeshrun with Freebird Farm when I buy a vegetable, egg, butter or fruit share (or any combination of those four). As a member, I commit myself to supporting the farm with a one-time payment. In addition, I commit to pick up my weekly delivery on Tuesdays at B’nai Jeshrun. I understand that if I do not pick up my share on time, it will be donated to the Judith Bernstein Lunch Program. As part of my membership I also agree to volunteer to work for two shifts of two hours each as indicated on the CSA webpage (per household) during the CSA season.
As a member of the CSA, I will receive a weekly share consisting of approximately 8-11 different vegetables (varies depending on share choice). The shares will vary in size and weight depending on the time of the season. One aspect of CSA is that members support their farmer by sharing in the inherent risks of agriculture (poor weather, drought, disease, early frost, crop failure and so on) and rewards (the bounty from a good season) involved in farming. CSA farmers purposely plan for such contingencies and use growing techniques that protect the harvest, minimize risk to members, and optimize the rewards: growing a wide variety of crops that thrive in different types of conditions; cover cropping, crop rotation, and irrigation. Moreover, the CSA builds relationships of trust between the farmer and community group. Members will get a wide variety of vegetables in plentiful amounts. Therefore, I understand this principle and agree that there is no guarantee on the exact amount or type of produce I will receive in my share. By participating in the CSA, I am supporting the local farmer as well as more equitable food distribution, and I am helping to create a more environmentally just, economically fair and healthy society.
Note: Fruit Share is available for vegetable buyers only.
Butter shares are delivered every other week. This fabulous kosher sweet cream butter comes from Kriemhild Dairy.
If you order a butter share, please choose salted or unsalted.
